to wikipedia the Core 2 Duo is "64-bit dual-core" as opposed to the Core Duo "32-bit mobile dual-core". Get the core2duo - its a kick-ass cpu and Does this mean the Core 2 Duo needs 64 bit apps to run at it's full potential.(I'm assuming it'll be able to run 32-bit apps) No, its 32 bit as well, 64 bit

32bit XP on 64 bit cpu's?
So, should I order Windows XP 64 bit? I don't have any 64 bit applications just yet and probably won't for a while, but will other 32 bit standard apps run faster on a 64bit OS or slower? Or no change? Stick with 32-bit. Your legacy applications may not run properly on x64 and the 32-bit ones won't run any faster.

This overs P4 in 64-bit mode only! What you have in i386 is the architectural perfmon support as documented by Intel for Core Duo/Core Solo and possibly In 64-bit they add r8-r15 in each sample. The rest of the logic is exactly the same. Until now, I have kept the 32 and 64 bit format completely separate.

I have a Dell Inspiron e1405 laptop with a Core 2 Duo processor. Under every 64-bit kernel I have tried yet, it hangs when I close the lid (or, I would assume, do anything else that activates System Management Mode). It works fine under 32-bit mode; closing the lid turns the LCD off using DPMS.

Also, it's expected that all new software (at least initially from Microsoft) will be 64-bit, thus making all else obsolete so consumers will see yet Nearly all Intel-based notebooks including the new Macs are 32-bit--the Core Duo processors despite rumors to the contrary are 32-bit processors derived from the

My D810 (which is the same generation as the XPS Gen2, I think) uses a Dothan-class processor, with is 32 bit. The D820 uses Core Duo (not the same as Core 2 Duo, or Conroe), which MAY be a 64 bit processor, although it may not function like one. If not, what is necessary to enable it: A - install 32-bit Windows XP Pro B - install 32-bit Windows XP Pro AND install 32-bit processor, eg Intel Pentium D945 (32-bit dual core) Installing the 32-bit Windows (or a more recent Fortran) should be sufficient. I don't know what you heard, but I have been running a 64-bit system for three years, and I am happy with it. Is it any faster than a 32bit CPU at the same clock speed? It's getting hard to find a 32-bit only CPU nowadays, and yes, the Core 2 Duo is faster than a 32-bit-only Pentium 4 at the same clock speed,

32 Bit or 64 on a Intel Core Duo Processor T2600 2.16GHz Laptop?
If you check the specifications on your processor at the Intel web site it will tell you if it's 64-bit enabled or not. However, if by "upgrade" you mean "Start Windows XP, put in the DVD and install Vista as an upgrade to XP" then you don't have a choice - there is no upgrade path from 32-bit Windows XP to 64-bit

I can't for the life of me figure out if the Intel Core 2 Duo is a true 64 bit processor, a fake one, or nothing at all to do with 32 bit. The Intel Core 2 Duo, is a true 64 bit processor. It can run both 64 bit and 32 bit application next to each other. Any thoughts on audio software evolving into 64 bit

64 bit or no?
The line "today's needs" leads me to one last question (but possibly out of topic): Do you think 32-bit architectures are going to fade out in 1-2 years' time? Now most (if not all) duo-core machines in the market are 64-bit (and this post has kept me informed that actually 48-bit address is supported by Fedora).

We are looking to create a specification for procuring new PC's soon, probably with Core 2 Duo processors. According to Intel's website, and Wikipedia, both the Core 2 and Core 2 duo are 64 bit processors. Yet, I am almost certain that we are running 32 bit XP, and I am a bit confused as to how this can be.

I was under the impression that Atlas had caught up with GOTO and ACML, and possibly even the Intel libraries on the Core 2 Duo. And I think 3.7.32 cleaned out some bottlenecks in the 64-bit SPARC code as well, so it's undoubtedly worthwhile for Debian to put it in the repositories for SPARC at 3.7.32 and
